The role is responsible for the execution of blending and product movements at the Portland Lubricants Plant. Blenders routinely interact with all departments at the facility, including Planning, Maintenance, Production & Packaging, Laboratory, Warehouse and Distribution.  The Blender will need to understand existing operating processes and participate in the creation of new blending strategies, develop a sound understanding of the blending processes at Portland and suggest profitable blending strategies while adhering to all Shell policies and procedures. This position will report to the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor

  • Prior military experience in a relevant job function such as Aircraft maintenance, Aircraft Fuels, Aviation Boatswain Mate, Diesel Mechanic, Fuels/Maintenance Specialist, Petroleum fuels/supply Specialist, Plant Operations, Power Plant Mechanic/Operator, Hydraulic Technician or Valve Repair Technician, Surface Reactor Laboratory Operator, Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator - Engineering Laboratory Technician, Petroleum Laboratory Specialist, Chemical Laboratory Specialist, Aviation Fuels Below Deck Operations Technician, Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer, and Chemical Engineering Assistant.  

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Perform inline and batch blending activities
  • Perform pipeline transfers, tank farm management and inspections
  • Perform quality assurance testing; Laboratory testing
  • Perform tank gauging for inventory and accounting purposes
  • Schedule and load contract carriers with finished product per the Bulk Loading Schedule. Interact and liase with carrier dispatchers, drivers and support personnel
  • Ensure that all bulk loading and blending procedures are followed to maintain Lubricants Quality Standards
  • Participate and contribute to long term projects to improve blending processes and systems 
  • Understand and develop mastery of Blending department equipment and processes
  • Inventory optimization of raw materials and finished, blended product through effective tank farm management
  • Provide support and guidance to the team in reference to day to day execution and process issues
  • Work closely with the Blending and Maintenance Supervisor to ensure that team goals are met
  • Work with other blenders to maximize blending efficiency and at the Portland LOBP to improve existing processes
  • Seek blend improvement opportunities by working with Blending Supervisor, Maintenance Team and Laboratory
  • Communicate and engage in a proactive and professional manner with Drivers, Contractors and co-workers
  • Perform all pertinent SAP administrative functions associated with the blending, loading and bulk material receipt and shipment
  • Performa operating procedure reviews and updates “GEMBA”
  • Perform various daily, monthly, quarterly and annual HSSE and inspections
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities in a safe and productive manner
  • Materials movement- Forklift operations for blending and receiving of pack additives
  • Due to the variable nature of the business early start times (i.e. ~ 0300 and/or late finish times (i.e. ~ 1800) may be required
  • Experience in plant operations, excellent communications and team skills with a strong focus on driving improvements
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly and work as a team to complete daily tasks
  • Drive safety and Quality cultures through active engagement and process improvements, Work as “One Team” to achieve department and plant goals
  • Successful candidate for this role must be willing and able to work collaboratively in a high performing team environment with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer skills
  • High School diploma/GED required. Associate degree preferred
  • Plant Operator experience a Plus
